What is a Medium and Spiritual Medium?

A Psychic Medium or a  Spiritual Medium is a person who makes themselves available to the Spirit world so that members of the Spirit world can communicate with people who are still alive. A medium is just an ordinary person who has the ability to use more than his / her five senses. He /she does not have the ability to "call up" or "disturb" the dead, because it is not the medium who chooses who he / she would like to communicate with. This is the choice of those in the Spirit world. However, through personal development, the medium learns to differentiate between Spirits that are not so desirable (those who give false information or cause trouble) and those that come in love and sincerity.

What Is The Purpose Of Mediums?

Although most people would say that a medium should only use their gifts to prove that life does exist after death, I believe that if spirit have made the effort to communicate with their friends and loved ones, they do so for a purpose and any information that they wish to give to help us, either in our spiritual life or material life, should be listened to with love and gratitude, rather than dismissed as fortune telling. My father (who is still alive) came to visit me yesterday. When I answered the front door to him I didn't acknowledge him and then turn him away once I saw that he was ok. I realised he had come to visit me for a reason and invited him in to talk to me. Surely we should offer this same courtesy to our friends and loved ones in the Spirit world who make the effort to visit us? If we are afraid, or uncertain who is there, then we can choose not to open the door, but to shut it in their face is another thing.
 

How Do mediums Work?

Each medium is a unique individual and as such, work in their own way. Just as we use a combination of our physical senses in the material world ( touch, hearing, sight etc ) to communicate with others, Spirit use a combination of the "extra sensory perceptions" of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience to communicate with mediums. I can only speak from my own personal experiences as to the way in which Spirit work with me. As I mentioned earlier, each individual works in a different way and different people may experience Spirit communication in different ways. I

Making contact with those in the spirit world can be achieved by many methods but none are so intense, so utterly absorbing and emotionally fulfilling as trance, channelling, overshadowing or inspired talking. It is perhaps the closest form of communication between spirit guides and the medium and is usually confined to working circles. A circle by the way is the modern day word for séance, and I am sure you will agree sounds more acceptable. When mediums train they will often sit in a development circle, here they learn to make contact with the spirit world and may find they have the capacity for trance work. They may also be able to listen to the wise and informative words of a spirit guide spoken through a trance medium.

Spirit people, when communicating can be of varying distances from the medium, indeed most mediums can usually describe whether a communicator is to the left, right or behind them. But spirit guides who have a strong connection with their medium are able to come closer, some describe this as walking into our aura. If we remember the human aura extends some 4 feet around us, then when a guide enters this area there is a bonding and deepening of contact.

But there are also different levels of this type of communication, in one state the medium remains fully conscious and is aware of all that takes place, in the other the medium is apparently asleep and has little or no recollection of the events taking place.
